What really motivates you, fellow special needs mother,
When faced with stigmas, endlessly you suffer,
When the days are short and the ‘to-do’ list is long,
When the hospital visits are too many and the sensory issues too strong,
Fellow special needs mother, what motivates you then? What really motivates you to carry on?
…………………
When the food is getting cold and tantrums are thrown,
When breathing is hard, and no mercy is shown,
When tension fills the air and tears your eyes,
When no strategy works and no thoughts suffice,
Fellow special needs mother, what motivates you then? What really motivates you to carry on?
When you haven’t taken a bath yet, and the laundry isn’t done,
When the dishes are dirty, and you can share it with no one!
When the homework isn’t finished, and the dinner isn’t made,
When there is no answer, no matter how much you prayed!
When you are exhausted beyond what you’ve ever known,
But you don’t give up… with a thin thread… you hang on!
Fellow special needs mother, what motivates you then? What really motivates you to carry on?
………………….
When you need to get out the door to breathe,
Catch your breath for just a minute, for you can’t take it anymore,
When you can’t understand what you are going through
Coz you’ve never felt this way before,
Fellow special needs mother, what motivates you then? What really motivates you to carry on?
………………..
When the future looks bleak,
And you sometimes cry alone,
When you put on that smile for your little precious,
Coz, you can’t let this be known,
When the soul is hurting real bad, and the hopes are hanging low,
When you look up to the heavens and tell them to bring it on,
Fellow special needs mother, what gives you courage then? What motivates you to carry on?
When the world treats you like a cliche, which you clearly can’t take,
And you are supposed to be sacrificial, which you know is a mistake,
You fight with the world, you fight with yourself the same,
You sometimes feel helpless, it’s all part of the game,
Fellow special needs mother, what really motivates you then? What motivates you to carry on?
I will tell you, what motivates me,
And you can share if you feel the same,
We are all in it together,
You are mine and I am your friend…
……………….
My child’s eyes give me strength, her touch gives me the hope,
Her smile fills me with love, her laughter helps me cope,
The fact that I was trusted with this beautiful being,
And that I am the one she looks up for everything,
I am her clown, I am her fun, I am her party, I am her sun, I am the eyes she sees the world with,
I am her hope, I am her listening ear, I am the shoulder to lean on, I am her voice, coz I know this is what it takes…
I cannot be not motivated because in the nature, there are no mistakes!
She is the one and she has shown me the way, she has helped me become the person I have become today,
And all the words in this world can’t ever convey, how much I cherish her in my life every single day.
Does it work the same for you too? The eyes, the touch, the hugs… do they fill your heart too?
If they do then never care for another thing, cause you are the mother, you are the rainbow, the cloud and the silver lining!
